Others with more knowledge may come back and completely disagree with my assessment and that is fine. One way I understand this is that the WOTR could be look at as gangland war set in the late Middle Ages with the various parties attempting to determine who would run the country. Also the conflicts appear to have been extremely limited engagements that did not harm and damage the local country side to the degree that previous wars had done nor on the scale of the later English Civil Wars. Very little in the way of peasant forces or levy. My understanding (and with much salt added as I am not well versed on the WOTR to the degree I would like) is that overall the forces were retinues of the various nobles involved so semi-professional to professional forces. You would have lots of archers, billmen/polearms and dismounted men at arms in plate armor wielding a wide range of pole weapons. For our Perry Vikings, Normans and Anglo Saxons gallery click here.
